How to choose a Moroccan rug

Every rug here is handmade from wool in the El Abbassi family workshops in Morocco's Rabat-Salé region, and every design can be woven to the size your room needs. These are the choices that narrow it down.

By style

• Beni Ourain: an ivory or natural ground with a dark diamond or lattice motif and a thick, soft pile — the style most people picture first.
• Boujaad and colorful Berber designs: warm reds, pinks and oranges in freer, more graphic patterns.
• Flat weave: thin, light and reversible, easy to layer and easy to move.
• Vintage-inspired: muted, softened colors for a lived-in look from the first day.

By size

• 5x8 ft: under a coffee table, or at the foot of a queen bed.
• 8x10 ft: most living rooms, with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug.
• 9x12 ft and larger: large living rooms and dining tables, with room to pull the chairs out.
• Runners: hallways, kitchens and the side of a bed.

Woven to your size

A made-to-order rug is woven in 15–20 days, then standard shipping takes 7–14 business days to every destination. A rug already in stock ships within 1–3 business days. Shipping is free on every order and already included in the price.

Why wool

Wool is durable and naturally springy, and the lanolin it keeps helps it shrug off everyday spills. Vacuum without a beater bar, blot spills with cold water, and turn the rug now and then so it wears evenly.
