This handmade wool rug distils Moroccan design to its purest form: a creamy ivory field crossed by a bold black diamond lattice, each diamond holding a hand-drawn Berber symbol. Crosses, combs and small filled diamonds are woven in the old language of Amazigh motifs, marks that have long stood for protection and good fortune. It belongs to the celebrated Beni Ourain tradition, the diamond-lattice style beloved by designers for the way it slips between Scandinavian calm and bohemian warmth. Ours is hand-knotted by the El Abbassi family in their workshops in Morocco's Rabat-Salé region, where Berber weaving skills are passed down through the family and every rug is made to order. The material is 100% natural undyed wool, so the cream and charcoal tones come from the fleece itself rather than any dye. That undyed wool is what gives the pile its plush, incredibly soft hand and its quiet durability, as the lanolin still in the fibre helps it resist stains and spring back underfoot for years. Thick and cushioning, it turns a bare floor into somewhere you want to sit. This is a genuinely flexible, size-friendly piece. Lay it in the living room to ground a sofa and chairs, run it alongside a bed for a warm first step in the morning, or use a smaller cut in a nursery or reading corner where softness matters most.
