The Art of Moroccan Weaving
Every Zarabify rug is made by skilled artisans who preserve authentic Moroccan weaving traditions, from sourcing natural materials to the final stitch.
The El Abbassi Family Legacy
For over 70 years, the El Abbassi family has been renowned in Salé — the twin city of Morocco's capital, Rabat — for its mastery of traditional Moroccan carpet making. Our story began with Abdellah El Abbassi and Mohammed El Abbassi, brothers who carried this craft with deep pride and skill.
The tradition was passed to the next generation: El Baine El Abbassi, who expanded our workshops in Rabat-Salé and strengthened partnerships with local women weavers.
Today, Mohamed Oussama El Abbassi and Yassine El Abbassi carry this legacy forward, managing our workshops while preserving the family's techniques and designs.
We don't just make rugs — we preserve a tradition passed down through generations, and share it with the world.

The Weaving Process
From raw wool to finished rug: seven steps, done by hand, in 15–20 days for a made-to-order rug.
- Wool Sourcing. We source premium wool directly from local Moroccan sheep herds, supporting regional communities. Hand-selected for quality, our wool is sourced sustainably from trusted Moroccan suppliers, then washed and graded at our Rabat-Salé workshops.
- Natural Dyeing. Each color is created using traditional natural dyes derived from plants, minerals, and organic materials. Our master dyers use recipes passed down through generations, creating rich, authentic colors that age beautifully over time.
- Yarn Preparation. The dyed wool is carefully hand-spun and prepared into yarn, ready for the loom. Skilled artisans spin and prepare the yarn with precision, ensuring consistent quality and strength for weaving.
- Loom Setup. Master weavers set up traditional looms with the yarn, creating the foundation for each unique piece. The loom is carefully warped by experienced craftspeople, a crucial step that determines the rug's structure and longevity.
- Hand Weaving. Each rug is knotted by hand on the loom, one row at a time: a made-to-order rug takes 15–20 days in our workshops. Weavers work methodically, building each pattern row by row from memory and tradition, then trimming the pile by hand — to an even depth, or to different heights on a carved rug.
- Quality Inspection. Completed rugs undergo rigorous quality checks to ensure durability, color integrity, and design accuracy. Each rug is inspected for knot density, dye stability, structural integrity, and overall craftsmanship before approval.
- Finishing & Packaging. The finished rug is carefully finished, cleaned, and professionally packaged for safe worldwide shipping. Final touches include precise edge binding, professional cleaning, and secure packaging to protect your rug during transit.
- 15–20 Days Per Rug. A made-to-order rug is knotted, trimmed, washed and finished by hand in our Rabat-Salé region workshops.
- 70+ Years of Heritage. Our master weavers bring generations of knowledge, skill, and dedication to every piece.
- 100% Hand-Made. No machines, no shortcuts—every rug is created entirely by hand from start to finish.
