Moroccan Rug Handmade Beni Ourain Ivory Wool Carpet

$99.00

This Moroccan rug is an abstract Beni Ourain in the calmest of palettes: soft taupe cloud shapes drifting across a warm ivory ground, punctuated by hand-drawn black feathers and a fine diamond motif. Hand-knotted by the El Abbassi family in their workshops in Morocco's Rabat-Salé region, it belongs to the Beni Ourain weaving tradition — minimalist, undyed and quietly graphic, with a Scandinavian and Japandi appeal that suits a serene modern interior. The wool is left largely in its natural state. Undyed fleece is hand-washed in clean spring water, so the ivory and taupe tones are the sheep's own rather than the product of a dye vat. The feather linework and diamonds are drawn in by hand on the weft as the rug is knotted — never printed, never tufted — at ten to sixteen knots per square inch. A plush high pile of around an inch and a half gives it a cushioned softness underfoot, and pale tassels finish both ends. Because it is so restrained, this neutral rug works almost anywhere. Ground a minimalist living room with it, lay it beside a bed so your feet meet wool each morning, or bring quiet texture to a hallway or study. Its ivory-and-taupe scheme pairs effortlessly with pale wood, black metal, linen and greenery, and makes a thoughtful housewarming or new-apartment gift. Wool cares for itself with little effort. Vacuum gently, without a beater bar, and rotate the rug seasonally so the pile wears evenly. Spot-clean spills with cold water and a mild detergent, and book a professional clean once a year. Offered in standard 8x10, 9x12 and 12x15 formats and made to order in custom sizes, this hand-knotted rug ships rolled, wrapped and fully tracked. Standard worldwide shipping is free on every order and already included in the price, with no minimum.
