Moroccan Rug, Handmade Indigo Beni Ourain Wool
$39.60 $99.00
This Moroccan Rug brings the calm of indigo and cream into any room it touches — a hand-knotted area rug built around a striped zigzag design that feels at once contemporary and timeless. Each piece is woven entirely by hand by Amazigh (Berber) women in the El Abbassi family workshops in Morocco's Rabat-Salé region, carrying forward a craft handed quietly from mother to daughter for generations. The design belongs to the M'rirt branch of the Middle Atlas weaving tradition: jagged indigo pinstripes split by a diagonal break across a soft ivory field. It is knotted at a medium-to-high density, which gives the pile a springy, dense feel underfoot and a subtle sheen that shifts as the light moves through the room. We weave this rug from 100% live sheep's wool, coloured with organic dyes drawn from local plants and spices. The natural lanolin still held in the fibre makes the wool quietly stain-resistant and remarkably hard-wearing, so a rug made this way is one you keep for decades rather than seasons. Both short ends finish in hand-braided ivory tassels. Styling it is easy. In indigo and cream the rug settles happily into Scandinavian, coastal and minimalist rooms — lay it under a pale linen sofa in the living room, run it along a bright hallway, or let it cool a sunlit bedroom. Nothing else in the space has to change around it. This piece is shown here in a 5x8 ft size, and it can also be woven to your own measurements if your room calls for a different footprint. Care is simple: vacuum gently without a beater bar, rotate it occasionally so it wears evenly, and blot any spills straight away with a damp cloth. Every order ships free, worldwide and fully tracked, included in the price. A made-to-order rug like this is woven in 15–20 days, after which standard shipping takes 7–14 business days to reach you.
