This Berber rug is a hand-knotted Moroccan wool carpet in vivid majorelle blue, scattered with tribal geometric symbols in saffron, turquoise, purple and ivory. Each piece is knotted to order by the Amazigh women of the El Abbassi family in their workshops in Morocco's Rabat-Salé region, worked on a traditional loom from hand-carded, hand-dyed wool. The design is pure Berber storytelling. Diamonds, zigzags, crosses and chevrons are scattered across a deep majorelle blue field, then framed by a multicoloured banded border in orange, turquoise, lilac and yellow. Read it as a tribal wool carpet and it feels grounding; read it as a field of colour and it lifts the whole room. The blue takes its cue from the famous cobalt of Marrakech, and the medium pile keeps every motif crisp underfoot. Wool does the heavy lifting here.
