Area Rug, Handmade Terracotta Moroccan Berber Wool Shag
$99.00
This terracotta area rug brings instant warmth to a room, a hand knotted Berber wool carpet in deep rust orange marked with nine black and mustard blocks set in three even rows. It is woven by the El Abbassi family in their workshops in the Rabat-Salé region of Morocco, where Amazigh (Berber) artisans still knot every rug by hand on an upright loom. The design belongs to the Beni Ourain weaving tradition, reworked here in an abstract, mid-century grid rather than the classic ivory-and-black diamonds. Made from 100% natural sheep wool at roughly 10 to 16 knots per square inch, the plush shag surface gives the rust orange ground real depth, and small variations in the dye are part of its handmade character. Hand-tied ivory fringe finishes both ends. An area rug of this scale, about 8 by 10 feet, works hard in a busy home. Use it as a living room anchor beneath a sofa and coffee table, a warm base under a dining table, or a bold foundation in a bedroom or studio. The earthy palette pairs naturally with walnut and leather furniture, mid-century pieces and plaster or lime-washed walls, and it reads as one confident block of colour rather than a quiet background. Every rug is made to order and woven knot by knot, then washed and sun-dried before it ships, so expect gentle irregularities that mark it as genuinely handmade. To keep it looking its best, vacuum on a gentle setting without the beater bar, spot clean with cold water and a mild detergent, and rotate the rug seasonally to even out wear. Professional cleaning is recommended, and it is best kept out of prolonged direct sunlight. Standard worldwide shipping is free on every order and included in the price, with no minimum. Each rug is rolled, wrapped and dispatched with tracking, ready to unroll the day it arrives.
