What is a hand-tufted rug?

Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching wool through a stretched canvas with a hand tool, following a drawn design, then shearing the surface to an even, dense pile. The technique is faster than knotting, which makes it the ideal way to produce contemporary designs and made-to-order sizes at a fair price — while keeping the work entirely by hand.

Modern designs, made to measure

Tufting gives our workshop freedom that traditional knotting doesn't: crisp curves, arches, color fields, and patterns drawn for today's interiors. Because each rug is tufted to order, this is the collection to choose when you need an exact size — a precise runner, a rug cut to an unusual room, or a matching pair.

Every tufted rug is made in our Salé workshop from drawing to final shearing, in premium wool on cotton backing.
